Setting the Benchmark for Green Ship Recycling

PHP Ship Breaking and Recycling Industries Limited complies with the standards of the Hong Kong International Convention, which governs ship recycling practices related to worker safety, environmental protection, occupational health, emergency preparedness, defined operational responsibilities, and structured monitoring and reporting systems. These internationally recognized requirements ensure disciplined dismantling processes aligned with global maritime regulations.

This achievement represents an important milestone for Bangladesh’s maritime industry, placing the country alongside established recycling nations such as India and Turkey. PHP became the first ship recycling yard in Bangladesh to secure internationally recognized certification under these standards, demonstrating its alignment with global best practices.

International Certifications & Recognitions
The facility has been awarded ISO 30000:2009 Ship Recycling Management System certification by RINA which marks a pioneering accomplishment within the national industry. In addition, PHP Ship Breaking and Recycling Industries Limited has obtained management system certifications from Bureau Veritas, including:

Investment in a World Class Green Yard
The transition into a fully compliant green ship recycling facility required four years of focused development and an investment of approximately USD 4 million during Phase I. This included the construction of reinforced concrete flooring and docking platforms, acquisition of modern equipment, and extensive workforce training to meet international environmental and safety standards.

Through this initiative, PHP demonstrated that Bangladesh is capable of operating a green ship recycling facility aligned with the standards of leading yards in India and Turkey.

Global Recognition
Further strengthening its international standing, PHP became the only facility in Bangladesh entrusted with recycling a certified “green vessel” by Brazilian ship owners, reflecting its capability to meet stringent environmental compliance requirements.

These achievements enhance the credibility of Bangladesh’s ship recycling sector while contributing to responsible global resource recovery and sustainable industrial practices.
