PHP Ship Breaking and Recycling Industries Ltd (PHP SBRIL), a proud concern of the PHP Family, has been awarded the Green Factory Award 2025 for its remarkable contributions to sustainable industrialisation, energy efficiency, waste management, and workplace safety. The award was presented at a ceremony held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka, organised by the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments under the Ministry of Labour and Employment. Receiving the award on behalf of the company were PHP Family Chairman and Ekushey Padak recipient Alhaj Sufi Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, and Managing Director Md. Zahirul Islam Rinku, alongside 30 other companies from various sectors, was recognised this year.
Since its establishment in November 2000, PHP SBRIL has become one of Bangladesh’s most environmentally responsible ship recycling companies, operating with the philosophy of Happiness, Peace, and Prosperity. The company employs 277 workers and strictly follows international standards, including the Hong Kong Convention 2009 and ILO safety guidelines. Over the years, PHP SBRIL has successfully recycled several globally certified green vessels, including Brazil’s Vale-owned Ore Vitória in 2018 and Japan’s NYK Line’s MV KAMO in 2023, marking the first direct Japanese ship recycling project in Bangladesh. With practices such as asbestos and hazardous waste management, a zero-discharge policy, and a comprehensive Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM), PHP SBRIL continues to demonstrate leadership in sustainable ship recycling while ensuring worker welfare, environmental protection, and long-term growth.
